Lourdes, France, is a painting that I completed in 2022. In college, I went on a pilgrimage with a large group of fellow students to Rome, France, and Spain. I took many photographs while there, many of which inspired the paintings for my senior show in 2011. Lourdes was a beautiful, small town in the hills in France. As it was a major Marian feast day when we went, the city was crammed with people. While there, we were able to touch and hold St. Bernadette's sock. My engagement ring was blessed with her sock as well! I have tried to go back to the basics with this painting. I have painted using layer upon layer, employing broad strokes to deconstruct the forms.
The original is 22x28 acrylic on canvas.
