This was inspired by a difficult, but beautiful hike in Rocky Mountain National Park. It was an uphill hike which would lead us to three gorgeous lakes! The first of these was Nymph Lake, which was covered in water lilies. Next came Dream Lake, which was crystal clear and surrounded by fly fishers. Finally came Emerald Lake, which is the lake that inspired this painting. It is about a 3.2 mile round trip hike, which was difficult for us as we traveled with a five-year-old, a three-year-old, and a six-month-old. We had also forgotten to pack lunch! It was a day filled with frustrations but also pure joy. As we were hiking, we would always know when we were coming upon a fast-moving stream or waterfall because the baby would start clapping and crying out happily the second she heard the sound of rushing water.
The original is 24x36 acrylic on canvas.
